Surface Design
Surface Design is an area that I find myself exploring more and more.  It all began with a book...Complex Cloth by Jane Dunnewold.  In this step by step book Jane takes you through dyeing, discharge, foiling, painting, stamping, stenciling, silk screening, image transfer and embellishments.  I find it to be one of my most used books these days.
It is really rewarding to start with a plain piece of fabric and turn it into something unique with no specific end use in mind.  Some of my surface design experiments have ended up in quilts, wearables or dolls.  Many of them are in a box waiting to be either used or acted upon once more.....
Watch out it is addicting!!!
